Dear Sir

Registration in Hong Kong

This Club has the privilege of wearing a defaced blue ensign, and from time to time we approach you for warrants for individuals to take advantage of this privilege. One of the conditions for the issue of a warrant is that the yacht in question should be British registered.

You will know that Hong Kong has recently introduced its own Register of Shipping, and all yachts which were previously British registered in the Port of Hong Kong have been transferred to it. Some of our owners have transferred their registration to other British Ports, and therefore their warrants are presumably still valid. What is the position of yachts which which have warrants but are now on the Hong Kong Register?

The majority of the yachts in this Club are not registered, but hold a Hong Kong Pleasure Vessel Licence. For the purposes of obtaining a warrant the Club has accepted Hong Kong licencing as meeting the requirement to be British registered. In view of the new Hong Kong regulations. is this still sufficient?

I regret to say that over the years the Club has not maintained records of its members who hold warrants. Could you please supply us with a list?

Yours faithfully

hfully
