Mr Berman,

15.0.5 meeting with Chinese Foreign
Formeign Minister
HONG KONG: BRIEFING THE SECRETARY OF STATE ON JLG WORK
1.
The Private Secretary has asked for advice on how best
to keep the Secretary of State up-to-date on the work of the
JLG.
2.
There are no agreed minutes of JLG meetings. I propose that Mr Galsworthy in Hong Kong should send a fortnightly
sitrep on JLG business, written for the non-expert; and that
we should submit this in time for Ministers' weekend boxes
with any additional glosses necessary, advice on how to use forthcoming Ministerial contacts with the Chinese to take
business forward etc. I would aim to keep such submissions
very brief.
3. The Secretary of State may also like to know of developments on two items of JLG business which the Prime
Minister and he raised in China:
