CPI(A) and CPI(B) are compiled and published by the Cenous & Statistics Department (C&SD) of the Hong Kong Government, whereas the Hang Seng CPI 16 compiled and published by the Hang Seng Bank Limited which is a private organisation. Price data of fresh-food items are collected once or thrice a week while those of non fresh-food items are largely collected on a monthly bands.

Several Household Expendituro Surveyo (HESG) Vere conducted in
the past, Jointly by the C&SD) and the Hang Seng Bank Limited, to
find out the latest consumption patterns of households in Hong Kong. The findings of these surveyɑ were used to derive the weights for compiling the CPIG. The last HES nas conducted between October 1984 and September 1985. All domestic households, except those living in remote areag and on boats, are covered in the survey. A report on this Curvey Wao published by the C&SD in July 1986. It is the policy of Hong Kong Government to conduct expenditure surveys every five years, if resources are available. A new HES has been launched in October 1989 and will be completed in September 1990. · Basic household data, including income, are' also collected in the General Household Survey..
