Since 1976, the Weekly Rest (Industry) Convention, 1921 (No. 14) has been applied in Hong Kong with modifications in respect of Articles 2 and 5. A summary of the relevant articles and modifications are as follows

Article 2

The whole of the staff employed in any industrial undertaking shall enjoy in every period of seven days a period of rest comprising at least 24 consecutive hours.

Modification

Non-manual workers in receipt of a salary exceeding HK$11,500 per month have no statutory entitlement to rest days.

Article 5

Provisions shall be made for compensatory periods of rest for the suspensions or diminutions of rest

day.

Modification

Adul: male workers with a statutory entitlement to one rest day every seven days may work voluntarily on that day, but there is no

statutory requirement that a compensatory rest period should be grant.ed.
