terms we can for the time being separate politics and economics," Mr Alatas told the ASEAN seminar. Australian Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Richard Woolcott told the seminar that APEC had reached consensus on the need for participation by China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.]
[6] Malaysian proposal for East Asian Economic Grouping welcomed at Bali meeting (Excerpts from station commentary) Malaysia's relations with Indonesia will be further strengthened as a result of the Prime Minister's official visit to Jakarta and Bali... The Malaysian Prime Minister's concept of the East Asian Economic Grouping or EAEG (?figured) prominently in the Jakarta discussion. It is gratifying for Malaysian society to note that this proposal was received with a positive attitude by the Indonesian head of state... The conference in Bali is a significant landmark in the history of ASEAN.... Besides, ASEAN is more than a geographical expression. It has established strong credibility and it is even a (?pace)-setter for the Asia-Pacific region... Even before the Bali conference, the East Asian Economic Grouping was being heralded as an ASEAN effort. From now on we can expect to see a great deal more about the EAEG. After all it does represent an institution that reflected the interdependence of Malaysians in our day and age. Malaysia will continue to promote a greater volume of trade both among ASEAN partners and with other members of the international community. President
Suharto opens tourist facilities on Bali Suharto inaugurated 75 tourism facilities in Bali on 3rd March. The world's largest archipelagic state is a stable, safe and peaceful country, he said in the presence of three ASEAN leaders, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed, Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. The Indonesian tourism industry recently suffered from a decline which was due to the Gulf war. The country's legislators recently criticized the US State Department's travel advisory which they feared would reduce the number of US tourists visiting Indonesia. The US Ambassador to Indonesia John C. Monjo, who attended the inauguration ceremony, refused to describe the travel advisory as a warning preventing US citizens from travelling to Indonesia, in answer to a question from Antara. However, he confirmed that the travel advisory on Indonesia specifically mentioned information on a curfew in the northern-most province of Aceh and the border areas between Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea. On the same day the US imperialists let U-2, RC-12, RV-1 and other high-altitude strategic reconnaissance planes and army reconnaissance planes make shuttle flights from the east to the west along the Military Demarcation Line for long hours to conduct an intensive aerial espionage on targets in the strategic depths and frontline areas of the North. interviewed mobilization (Excerpts from recorded interview with Comrade Yi Sok-kun, Maj-Gen of the KPA) Upon receiving the order of the KPA supreme commander, the hearts of the officers and men of our Air Force are burning with the endless passion of loyalty to the party and to the leader, and with a sense of hatred for the enemy. In defiance of the unanimous denunciation of the entire Korean people and world peaceloving people, the US imperialist and the South Korean warmongers again staged the Team Spirit-91 joint military exercise, thus bringing dark clouds of nuclear calamities over the heads of our people.
We cannot repress our indignation against the enemy's manoeuvres to block the road to peace and peaceful reunification, which all the Korean people are ardently aspiring to, and to erase our Republic. Furthermore, we are grinding our teeth in indignation for the filthy and alarming move to use the void, which was caused by our voluntary cutting of 100,000 troops, for impure objectives...
Our People's Army is an indomitable and invincible army which is prepared as the one-is-a-match-for-100 fighting force by heartily accepting the most proud slogan of faith: “Let us, the entire Army, fight under the guidance of dear leader Comrade Kim Chong-il, the great genius of military affairs [Korean: widachan kunsaui yongje], by dedicating our whole lives to the great leader [Korean: suryong]!"...
