1.
Many thanks for setting up a first-class programme for me in Macau last week. It was a fascinating opportunity for me to draw a first-hand comparison between Hong Kong and Macau and put some questions to some of the key players in the territory.

2. I am sorry that the opportunity to meet later in the week did not materialise (I tried to contact you once or twice by telephone but failed!). One thing I very much wanted to stress again was the value we in HKD attach to your political reporting on Macau and the information that comes your way through your excellent network of contacts there. As I said we are interested in anything which bears either directly or indirectly on Hong Kong and in particular relations with the mainland.
3. You very kindly offered to record the main points of our conversation with Edmund Ho: if you could find the time I would be very interested to have a short note which I could circulate to colleagues here in London.
4. Finally, it remains for me to thank you for a superb lunch at the Pousada Sao Tiago certainly high on my list of places

to revisit if I should return to Hong Kong and Macau!
Yours ever
Chús.
