At the Camoes Day celebrations on 10 June in Macau, I met amongst the assembled NCNA hierarchy Li Xiaoyu, the Portuguese interpreter for Guo Dongpo.

Li said that Guo had already had 2 long meetings with Governor Vieira and that a relationship had begun. Vieira would not, in NCNA's belief, have as much contact with Guo as Acting Governor Nabo, who had meetings at least every 3 weeks with Guo during his 7 month tenure. But Guo was not worried by this: he saw Vieira as a calmer decision maker. NCNA had felt Nabo was trying to do too much too fast.
