But Hong Kong has a real problem with criminals from China, and taking action will be popular there (including with the UDHK). Their platform states that on public security they wish to "increase co-operation between China and Hong Kong and make all efforts to stop cross border criminal activities, prevent the smuggling of goods and fire arms". This is one issue on which there is virtual unanimity in Hong Kong. With a system for referral to London of potentially difficult cases, I believe we will have the necessary safeguards in place.
