Amnesty International, the world-wide Human Rights and Peace-Keeping organi- zation, which you may know, has asked me to write you concerning the proposals to resume Executions in Hong Kong.
Amnesty INternational is opposed to the death penalty on the grounds that it constitues the ultimate form of cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment
and that it violates the right to life..
The effectiveness of the death penalty is increasingly questioned, and the resumption of executions would be contrary to both world and regional trends towards the abolition of the death penalty, both in practice and in law.
We urge the Hong Kong Legislative council to take a principled stand against the death penalty, and to work towards its total abolition.

Finally, as a member of Amnesty International, and of the Human Race you are I respectfully urge you to treat prisoners as you would wish members of your own family or friends would be treated under similar circumstances: HUMANELY and MERCIFULLY, and grant them speedy release and return to their loved ones.
Respectfully,
Ben V. Luden
