Dear Professor Aganbegyan,
On behalf of my fellow board members and the entire membership of our Association, I am writing to formally invite you to attend our forthcoming Conference in Hong Kong next May as a principal guest speaker. Our annual Conference is one of the securities markets' major events and attracts up to 2000 people from the investment banking community. Furthermore, the event is widely covered by the global financial media.
The AIBD is a global, self-regulatory body representing some 900 member firms from 40 different countries, all of which are active in the international capital markets arena. Based in Zurich, with a substantial wholly owned entity in London, AIBD is currently recognized as both a Designated Investment Exchange (DIE) and an International Securities Self Regulating Organization (ISSRO) within the scope of the UK 1986 Financial Services Act (FSA). It has, furthermore, applied to the EC Commission for negative clearance of, and notified for exemption, its statutes and rules book.
Our membership reads like a 'who's who' of international finance and the Association itself is currently deeply involved in discussions with the European Community at a number of different levels concerning Investment Services Directives etc. I have taken the liberty of enclosing a corporate brochure on the Association which I trust will provide you with substantially more information.
We have indeed been honoured over the past three years to have received such distinguished guest speakers as Donald Regan, Helmut Schmidt, Wim Kok and Dr. Otto Graf Lambsdorff, and feel sure that our membership would be delighted if we could win you as one of the speakers for the 1991 conference.
The date for our meeting in Hong Kong next year is the week commencing Monday, May 13, although the date for your speech would be Thursday, May 16, during the morning. It is customary for a principal speaker to talk for some 30/45 minutes and to answer a strictly limited number of questions from the floor.
AIBD would, of course, pay a fee for your speech and be entirely responsible for bearing both your travel and accommodation costs at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong.
