Please refer to your minute of 13 September. would have it, I have recently come across a useful source of information on the Hong Kong Chinese language press in an article by Joseph Man Chan and Chi-chuan Lee in the China Quarterly (No 126 of June 1991). The attached listing of the main Chinese language newspapers, and their characterisation, owes much to that article.

2. Your memory was correct about the Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po. In a little more detail, the man communist papers are Ta Kung Pao (editor Li Xiawen), Wen Wei Po1(editor Zhang Yunfeng) and New Evening News (Hsin Wan Pao, an offshoot of Ta Kung Pao). magazine "Bauhinia" (Zijing) is also communist controlled. As well as being the informal office of the PRC, the New China News Agency functions as a news agency and puts out stories for other press organs to pick up. The China News Agency (Zhongguo tongxun she) is also a source of official Chinese material. Major Articles and especially editorials in these three newspapers and one magazine can be assumed to speaking with the voice of China.
3. On the other side, there is no official voice of the Chinese Nationalists although the Hong Kong Times (publisher Eddie Tseng) has strong pro-KMT leanings and links. The rest of the Chinese press varies in its political leanings, and the attached listing may be of some help, though it does not pretend to either definitive or exhaustive.
