Den fr hemy,
As you know, BBC World Service TV wishes to develop with HutchVision in Hong Kong the distribution of an integrated package including its TV and radio networks via Asiasat, In seeking to secure the necessary variation in the Hutchvision uplink licence I should emphasise the following points:
1. The BBC World Service's radio programmes in English and Asian languages, from which the television service was developed, are of course а vital complement in programming terms to World Service TV, affording as they do an opportunity for Asian viewers to gain access in local languages to a wide range of current affairs material specifically produced for the target area.
2. The BBC World Service undertakes that its radio programmes, which are legal in England, and are currently transmitted in Hong Kong, will continue to abide by and conform to the regulations and conditions applicable to broadcasting in Hong Kong, and the BBC World Service agrees to indemnify Hutchvision against any claim or action in respect of the BBC's transmissions via its capacity.
3. As part of the above package, BBC World Service currently intands to offer the following programmes:
a) English (continuous 24-hour general programming);
b) Service for parts of the day on additional networks carrying daily programmes in:
Mandarin
Bengali
Burmese
Cantonese Arabic
Persian
Vietnamese
Indonesian
Hindi
Russian
Tamil Thai Nepali Urdu Pashto
