When I met you the other day I said I would send you a copy of the report I wrote to Chris Irwin following my visit to Hong Kong for the launch of BBC World Service Television in Asia.
I enclose a copy of my letter to Chris, for what it is worth.
As you will see, I had only two comments to make about the future: first, that the programme content of the Service will need to be sharpened up a bit; and, second, that the BBC must plan on keeping someone in HutchVision for a certain time, and someone who can wield a bit of authority. This is more because of HutchVision's relative inexperience than because of any interventionist tendency on their part.
As to my paragraph 3, I should have added that Mr. Li's English is not at all good and I do not know how far he understood the things I said to him. But they sounded good and I hope those around him will have got the message?
