Dear David,
Sorry I couldn't get this to you yesterday. Enclosed are a small selection of my recent cuttings on Hongkong-British relations and, as you requested, a copy of my CV.
•
I will be in London from July 23 - August 10 and hope very much it will be possible to meet Mr. Paul (and perhaps other officials such as Mr. Burns and Mr. Wye) at some point during that period. Mr. Ricketts has also suggested that I drop by and see him while I am there.
My reason for wanting to meet them is to have a background discussion so that I can get a better idea of the general drift of British policy towards Hongkong. In addition, in Mr. Paul's case, I would also be interested in discussing his hopes for his new job, since I will almost certainly be profiling him after he comes out here.
I hope very much that you can fix up something along these lines. Many thanks, and I look forward to seeing you in Hongkong this weekend.
