1. Thank you for your teleletter dated 28 December saying that the paper concerning my job will go to the Finance Committee (FC) on 18 January.
2. Yesterday I received a copy of a memo to you dated 27 December from Clement Cheung on behalf of the Secretary for the Civil Service, which says that the paper will go to the FC on 25 January.
3.
Unless otherwise informed, I shall assume that 18 January is the correct date and that you will be able to let me have definite news on that day. As you know, I was previously expecting to receive confirmation of the appointment on 14 December, but despite the delay till 18 January I have still been planning to start on 18 February as earlier agreed, although it will not be easy to complete the final arrangements here in the short time available. If confirmation of appointment should be further delayed beyond 18 January, this would cause me added difficulties. In those circumstances, I hope it would be understood if I should need to ask for a corresponding short postponement of my starting date. I am not sure if I would need to request this if confirmation slips to 25 January, but I think I probaby would.
