1. As you know, the Minister very much enjoyed and found most stimulating his conversation last week with Mr Hay Davison. The meeting has prompted Lord Caithness to consider organising a lunch for a group of senior businessmen, officials and others with interest in China and Hong Kong. The purpose of the occasion would be to brainstorm about the region, discussing likely long-term developments there, both political and economic, and what Britain should be doing in the widest political and commercial sense. Lord Caithness would be looking for new ideas, long-term thinking and original perspectives.
2.
Lord Caithness mentioned the idea to Mr Hay Davison, who was enthusiastic. Mr Hay Davison would certainly be a candidate. Another name that springs to mind is that of Lord Young. The Minister envisages a lunch, or just possibly a dinner, at Lancaster House for 12-20 guests.
3. The Minister would be most interested to hear your views, and those of copy addresses, and for some suggestions for guests.
