The Secretary of State was grateful for your submisison of 29 May and for Lord Caithness' comments as recorded in Mr Tibber's minute of 30 May. The Secretary of State has now agreed to hold the seminar on Hong Kong on 3 July from 1000 1130 at 1 Carlton Gardens. He agrees with
Lord Caithness that we need more outsiders and fewer on the home team. The Secretary of State is inclined to invite:
Away Team
Sir Geoffrey Howe or Sir Richard Luce or Sir Peter Blaker
Peter Shore MP
George Walden MP
Dick Wilson
or Dr Gerald Segal
Cyril Lin (expert on Chinese economy at St Anthony's)
Simon Jenkins
John Gittings
Graham Hutchings
Ian Hay Davidson
or Bill Brown
Adrian Swire
or Simon Murray (if they are here)
A Hong Kong businessman, as suggested by Lord Caithness (but perhaps not one of the very grandest such as
Y K Pao)
