Your petition of 25 March 1ÿÿi has been put to the Governor in Council and I am writing to let you know the outcome. I can confirm that the petition was submitted in its entirety.
The Executive Council considered very carefully all the points in the petition but have reconfirmed that the policy of paying Hong Kong pensions in Hong Kong dollars should continue and apply to all. the view that it is not possible for the Hong Kong
Members were of Government to introduce the special arrangements you request for one specific UK resident group of pensioners, in order to provide a measure of protection against fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Hong Kong dollar against the pound sterling.
I appreciate that you will be disappointed to receive such an answer, but I should stress that this is not the end of the matter. We have raised this issue with HMG and are pressing them to introduce arrangements which would provide a degree of certainty regarding the sterling value of Hong Kong pensions received by HMOCS officers who formerly served in Hong Kong. amend the existing SPOS arrangements to ensure that they....
One option would be to "work both ways" as they originally did before 1977. ́ ́ The other is for HMG to take over responsibility for payment of HMOCS pensions at a fixed exchange rate.
