Thank you for your letter of 4 July in reply to Alan Paul's letter to you of 9 May, about matters of concern to HMOCS officers.
However, I note your continuing concern about the interpretation of Chinese Nationality Law by the future Special Administrative Regional Government. We recognise that this is a difficult issue, and it is already under discussion in the Joint Liaison Group.
Finally, I can reassure you that Ministers continue to recognise fully the concerns of HMOCS members and that HMG are in the process of drawing up appropriate arrangements for members of HMOCS in Hong Kong which recognise the change of sovereignty in 1997.
