I enclose a copy of a self-explanatory response from the RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre, Beggin Hill, to an application by one of our members' sons to participate in the RAF University sponsorship scheme, together with his father's appeal.
It would appear that despite assurances to the contrary, this boy has been discriminated against by virtue of his father's service with the HKG; service we are informed is considered as Crown Service, since he is a member of HMOCS. Would it please be possible to seek urgent clarification particularly as to whether this disbarment from competition applies to this scheme only or to a more general disqualification of other HMOCS member' children who may wish to join the UK Armed Forces both before and post 1997.
Yours faithfully,
DiRuthwate
(K. Braithwaite) Secretary
Superintendents' Association of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force
