Thank you for your letter of 22 July to Alan Paul about pensions for overseas officers in Hong Kong. Alan Paul has already left this Department, and I am standing in until Peter Ricketts arrives in September.

You refer to the deadline of 30 June 1992 for applications to join the Hong Kong Government's new pension scheme and its importance to HMOCS members. I regret that I have nothing further to add to Mr Paul's letter of 5 July on this. This is a matter for the Hong Kong Government, and one which they keep under review.

As for your point about future arrangements for Hong Kong members of HMOCS, and the financial implications of opting for the new or the old pension scheme, I am not yet able to
