RESIDENCE CLEARANCE
ANNEX C TO SIRO 7
1.
The residence rule is defined as follows:
китого
"Candidates, whether or not they are of UK origin, should normally have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years immediately preceding their application. In certain circumstances, particularly where an applicant is of UK origin, a shorter period of residence may be accepted and a waiver of part of the residence requirement may be granted, provided that evidence of assimilation into the UK can be demonstrated".
This rule does not apply to candidates for non-sensitive trades; however such candidates must be eligible in all other respects and be of good quality.
RESIDENCE CLEARANCE
APPLICABILITY
2. Residence Clearance.
Residence clearance, ie waiver of the residence
rule, is required for all candidates for commissioned service and for non-commissioned service as aircrew, or in the sensitive trades listed in Appendix 1 to Annex A, who have resided outside the UK for more than a total of 6 months in the 5 years immediately preceding their applications. In this context, however, periods not exceeding 3 weeks may be disregarded for any calculation of the 6 month period.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION FOR WAIVERS
3.
When enquirers do not meet the residence requirement, applications for service may only be accepted if they qualify for consideration for a waiver of the rule in accordance with the conditions outlined below. A waiver may only be requested in exceptional circumstances where the risk to security is minimal and the qualities offered by a candidate place him or her at a considerable advantage compared with UK-based competitors. However, the Flow Chart at Appendix 1 to this Annex illustrates the special circumstances where a waiver may be sought and should be consulted before rejection of an application.
