Discuss with Gov.
HONG KONG: AIRPORT CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
A
B
1. The Minister may wish to see the list of forty five people who have accepted invitations from the Governor to sit on the Airport Consultative Committee. The Governor
also intends to approach a further five people to make the
number up to fifty.
2. The Governor has included eleven of the twelve principal
Chinese nominees (marked with an asterisk). By and large
these are reasonable people, but Dr Victor Sit who has been a prominent critic of many aspects of the airport, will be a
problem.
3. Mr Wong Po-Yan, the proposed Chairman, was a long-time appointed member of the Legislative Council and has been on
Government Boards and Committees. He is a traditional
Chinese businessman, and while quite clearly part of the "establishment", is likely to lean towards China. The membership of the Committee is certainly heavyweight: there is one current ExCo member (Mr H K Cheng); two former LegCo
members (Mr F K Hu and Professor C K Poon); and a number of
prominent businessmen including Mr Gordon Wu (Hopwell)
Mr Robert Ng (Sino Realty).
