General Description of Terminal Layout

At opening day the terminal will consist of a single, connected processing terminal and concourse with 42 frontal gates and 18 remote gates. Airport railway stations and curbside road access are located at both Departures and Arrivals levels and a train shuttle provides a fast and convenient link between the east and west ends of the concourse.

In the processing terminal there are three main levels. The Departure and Arrivals levels contain the main passenger processing facilities and the basement area is occupied by the train shuttle and the baggage handling system. In addition there is a mezzanine level above Departures for administrative offices.

The airside concourse has two main levels and one mezzanine. Passenger access to the boarding gates is via the upper Departures level, the Arrivals mezzanine leads from the gates to the Arrivals processing area and the Apron level is the location of the airline and apron operations. Below the Apron level are tunnels to accommodate the shuttle as well as the mechanical / electrical system.

Passenger Flow: Departures

Passengers arrive at the processing terminal via one of the several landside transport options which include rail, bus, taxi, private car, hotel limousine, ferry or shuttle bus.

Check-in

Entering the large Check-in Hall, travellers proceed to the appropriate counter, which will be located at one of several check-in islands. Each island has 36 counters (18 on each side) with baggage conveyor belts in the middle. Group waiting zones are provided for group check-in at the ends of the Hall adjacent to the bus drop-off area. Concession areas, which will include space for restaurants, will enable passengers to spend any remaining time shopping or relaxing with friends.

Passport Control

Just beyond the check-in counters is the passport control area. A total of 94 positions can be put into operation to ensure minimal delays during peak traffic periods.

Security Screening

After passing through passport control, passengers arrive at the security screening checkpoints. Each checkpoint includes a walk-through magnetometer and a baggage x-ray screening unit. If an alarm is triggered on the magnetometer, a second search is conducted with a hand-held wand in a separate area (to avoid delays) at the end of the security checkpoint. There are 24 checkpoints, again allowing for maximum efficiency when traffic loads are heavy.

Departure Concourse

For Departures passengers the concourse provides access to the gate, boarding lounges and to the concessions with shopping, food and services. The shuttle provides a fast link from the east to the west end of the concourse.

The concession spaces concentrated in the Departure Halls above the east and west people mover stations are ideal locations for shops and food outlets as they are situated at important circulation crossroads connecting several concourse wings and the people mover station. Space is allocated along the concourse corridors for additional, smaller concession.
