1. We spoke. I consulted Chris Osborne by telephone this morning. As expected he confirmed that he was not responsible for the story about discussions over the resumption of talks.
2. On a broader front he faces the same problems as we all do: the pressure from the media who are desperate for news. As an ex News Department officer I have no doubts about Osborne's ability to hold the line. However, with the pressure increasing it is probably wise to send a telegram with a comprehensive line.
