Sir Percy was in complete agreement with the proposal that Hong Kong,
when handed back to the Chinese Administration in 1997, should have an
infrastrucutre that was capable of meeting present demands and being
able to accommodate the growth that would obviously take place during
the coming years. He agreed that the success of Hong Kong had been
it's usefulness to China and this position should not be lost. He also
agreed that should we start to lose the airport and port.trade to the
Mainland, it would be quite conceivable that Hong Kong's importance to
China would diminish with corresponding results.
He requested that we continue to push the project in Hong Kong and
wished us every success. He also requested that we keep in touch with
Mr. John Wybrew on developments regarding the project.
Again he expressed his sincere gratitude for the meeting and, on
conclusion, once again expressed that his regards should be passed on
to Mr. Wu.
