FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
The Clerk to the Foreign Affairs Committee has, today, advised us that the FCO will shortly be asked to update the Committee on the airport development project by way of a written submission.

The Clerk has also told us that the Committee will be asking for an informal session with me on the airport issue. I shall need detailed briefing material. especially on the financial aspects. I should be grateful if this could be prepared and despatched by the end of this week so that may prepare my self over the weekend.
3.
You may be interested to know that the Committee had an informal session with the Chinese Ambassador on the airport about a month ago. According to the Clerk, the Ambassador not only expressed concern about the availability of funding but he also queried the need for a new airport. This latter observation does not seem to accord with what, I understand, has transpired at recent meetings in the FCO with the ambassador but it may have encouraged FAC's revived interest in Hong Kong matters.
4.
Alan Paul (to whom I have reported the above) tells us that the FAC is contemplating a vis, to Hong Kong in about two months. Presently, of course they are preoccupied with the Gulf.
