SUPPLY MEETS DEMAND

The role of the TDC's Trade Enquiry Section in introducing local and overseas companies to the right trading partners continues to grow parallel to its expanding computerised database. In 1990, 272,000 trade enquiries were processed, an increase of 22% over the previous year.

At year end the Council's local database stood at 48,000 entries, an increase of 10% over 1989, while the overseas facility held 176,000 entries, an increase of 19%. The quality of the databank was also improved with the establishment of a databank audit function and a simplified input procedure.

In response to the increasing demand from local business people for trade information and market intelligence, a new cost-effective service outlet known as the Datashop was introduced. The facility provides a comprehensive service of on-line trade enquiries, information on TDC services and activities, and sells TDC product magazines, research publications and Hong Kong-made souvenirs. Two Datashops, conveniently located for the public at the General Post Office in Central and Trade Department Tower in Mongkok, were opened in June and August, 1990. The Council's branch office in Tsuen Wan was also converted into a Datashop in October, 1990.

The Council's sub-office in Kwun Tong and the Tsuen Wan Datashop continue to provide valuable support to business people in the heavy industrial areas of East and West Kowloon.
