During the year, the Council continued to expand its partici- pation in major conventions and trade fairs in China. These

included the International Convention of Guangdong

Footwear, Zhongshan, the 1990 Fair for Guangdong Foreign Trade & Economic Relations in Zhuhai, and the 4th Multinational Instrumentation Conference & Exhibition and EXPO COMM China '90, both in Beijing.

With the significant growth of trade opportunities in other parts of China, the Council continued to organise a wide range of trade missions, mainly for specialised industries including electronics, toys, garments, textiles and dyeing, watches, printing and packag- ing. These missions explored market potential in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shantou, Shanghai and Heilongjiang.

In addition to trade exhibitions and missions, high-level contacts were also made through trade seminars organised by the Council. During the year, ten seminars were held in key cities all over China creating new avenues for business dialogue. They covered such topics as "Business Opportunities between Hong Kong & China" and "Retail Business & Sales Techniques".

The TDC also sponsored a series of trade exhibitions and seminars in Hong Kong, arranged by major PRC organisations. These included a trade seminar on "Shanghai Economic Development in the '90s" and the "Foshan-Hong Kong Electronics Industry, conomic and Trade Symposium". The Council also welcomed more than 150 trade missions from China, including VIP groups from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Hunan and Hubei.
