Cable & Wireless recognises that in time competition will come.
Nevertheless the company and the UK's wider commercial interests
have a considerable stake in the Hong Kong Government continuing
to honour existing agreements. If HMG through its regular
contacts could remind the Hong Kong Government that it would
expect these agreements to be preserved, this would provide some
support to Cable & Wireless against increasingly aggressive
lobbying from elsewhere.
