The Prime Minister has asked me to thank you for your letter of 4 September.
The Prime Minister fully understands and sympathises with the hardship that you are facing as a result of the closure of the Bank of Credit and Commerce Hong Kong Ltd. He does not, however, feel that it would be appropriate for him to intervene in this matter which falls squarely within the Hong Kong Government's jurisdiction and authority. He is aware that Hong Kong Government officials are working hard to find the best solution on behalf of depositors and other creditors of BCCHK and he hopes that their efforts will be successful.
Your letter has been passed to the Hong Kong Government as you requested.
