of the letter written by President Bush to Senator Baucus on the 19th July concerning the renewal of granting most-favored-nation (MFN) trade status to mainland China along with a statement made by Senator Baucus on the matter for your reference.

I would like to draw your attention to the last paragraph of page 3 of President Bush's letter that the US government has a firm position of supporting our accession to the GATT and will begin work actively with other contracting parties to resolve in a favourable manner the issues relating to our GATT accession. I was told that the US Mission to the GATT have already informed Ambassador Tran, EC Ambassador to the GATT officially of US governtment's new position.
