HMS Endurance
The Secretary of State was grateful for your submission of 3 July. Rather than minuting now, however, he would prefer to await the paper on our out of area defence commitments before proceeding.
The Secretary of State also wonders whether, if Endurance is not seaworthy, we should really insist on a substitute. He believes that Endurance is a symbol, and that a substitute might be less so.
