121. Brunei Garrison.

The UK Garrison Brunei should be placed under full command of Headquarters UKLF with effect from April 1996. (Paragraphs

122. Arrangements for the final Withdrawal. In view of the fact that a substantial military presence (minimum one battalion, helicopter support, elements of supporting services and Headquarters staff) will be required almost up to 30 June 1997, the most practical way of departing is by sea. This requirement leads to the conclusion that a CVS Group together with a LPD should be available in Hong Kong by 01 June 1997 at the latest. (Paragraphs E 10&19)

RECOMMENDATIONS

123. Timing of the Publication of the Review. The COS are invited to

take note of the need to consult with the FCO and HKG before

publishing the 1991 Review.

124. Withdrawal of the Second Gurkha Battalion. The COS are invited

to note that the decision concerning the withdrawal of the second

Gurkha battalion should not be made until the time of the 1993 Review

at the earliest, and that the battalion itself will probably not be
