I have seen your Private Secretary's letter of 27 June. If HMS ENDURANCE is not to be deployed this year and to repair her would be very costly, we must now take a decision on replacement. I suggest that you should
circulate a paper to OPD so that we can consider the
various options and discuss also the other elements in
the defence of our Dependent Territories which I
mentioned in my minute of 18 June.
