The Hong Kong Express of 29 October published two reports quoting comments by John Ni, Head of Taiwan's Chung Hwa Travel Service and senior Kuomintang representative in Hong Kong.
Ni said that it was a "good sign" that Hong Kong Government had permitted him to come to work here. He also described plans for a "Hong Kong-Taiwan Trade and Investment Committee" to be set up next year by the Taiwan Industries Association and Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in order to promote Hong Kong-Taiwan economic co-operation. He said that Mr. Allen Lee Peng-fei had suggested establishing such an organisation in 1989 and that in future it could also help to promote economic co-operation with the mainland.
