I took over from Mr. J.C.A. Hammond as Commissioner for Labour in March this year and I shall be attending the ILO Conference in Geneva from 4 to 11 June.
Before returning to Hong Kong, I plan to visit London. During my stay there I hope to be able to call on the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. Back in 1985, as Deputy Commissioner for Labour, I had a most interesting visit to your agency. I think it would be useful for me to visit you again to keep myself abreast of latest developments on labour relations in the U.K.
I should be most grateful if you could arrange visit programme for me to the ACAS on, say, 13 June.
I am copying this letter to Mr. Adrian Smith, International Labour Adviser of the FCO, and the Principal of the Overseas Division of the Department of Employment so as to keep them informed of my proposed visit.
