As you may know, the Financial Secretary designate Hong Kong government, Mr Hamish McLeod, will be in London early next month. A courtesy call on Sir Terence Burns has already been arranged for 1 July, and it is possible that Mr McLeod will also see Treasury Ministers and Mrs Lomax.
I have been asked to prepare some background briefing for these conversations, and I would be most grateful for your assistance in
this.
I envisage briefing on the lines provided for Mr Wicks' recent visit to Hong Kong. It would be very helpful, therefore, if you could let me have the latest versions of your factsheets giving key economic statistics, plus any other material you have on the stocks about the Hong Kong
Kong economy and recent financial developments which you think might be of interest.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Nigel Cox in the FCO, with a request to let me have а brief note on recent political developments, including the latest state of play on the airport project.
I would be grateful if you could let me have this material by close of play on Tuesday 25 June (I shall be out of the office at the end of that week).
