Hong Kong have reported that although two thirds of the 3 year CPA resettlement period is now over, only one third of the UK's quota of 2000 resettlement places has been fuled (Hong Kong telno 1753 of 1 June). Lord Caithness has asked what is being done to ensure that the UK will have accepted all 2,000 refugees by
mid-1992.
2 In January, the Home Office, aware that Vietnamese refugees were not being resettled as quickly as intended, urged the resettlement agencies in this country to transfer further refugees from Hong Kong as soon as vacancies were available in reception centres in the UK. Unfortunately difficulties in finding suitable long-term accommodation for those currently in reception centres, together with a recent intake of refugees from Vietnam and other countries in the region under the Orderly Departure Programme has meant that the rate of transfers from Hong Kong is currently only half that hoped
