COMMONWEALTH FINANCE MINISTERS MEETING: BRIEFING REQUIREMENTS
KUALA LUMPUR, 8-10 OCTOBER
1. The UK Delegation to this year's meeting of the Commonwealth Finance Ministers (CFMM) will be led by the Economic Secretary, Mr Maples. He will be accompanied by Mr Lankester (ODA), Mr Sedgwick (HMT), Mr Bone (ERD) and others. Representatives from certain Dependent Territories will also be included.

The Treasury is the lead Whitehall Department on the CFMM; lead within the FCO. The Treasury have now requested briefing for both the CFMM and the Annual Meetings of the IMF/IBRD which will follow on 13-14 October in Bangkok; a copy of Mr Pickering's letter of 9 August is attached. Mr Page (ERD) will be coordinating the FCO input to the IMF/IBRD briefing. For the CFMM, all briefs are to be cleared with FCO Departments, but the FCO leads on only the following:
a) Background Briefs
(i) The Commonwealth
(ii) The role of the CFMM
(iii) Arrangements for Future Meetings
