RESTRICTED

Would appreciate any help you can give in emphasising to

the Chinese that their words and actions can have great influence on international business opinion of Hong Kong's status as a regional and international economic centre.

Important however to avoid triggering Chinese

sensitivities about international interference in Hong Kong,

should not appear to be trying to "internationalise"

Hong Kong.

Interested to hear your views on this.

International Support

-

Senator Evans made a statement in Hong Kong in April on

the flexibility of the Australian Immigration Rules and how

they could help Hong Kong residents. Very welcome.

- Assume any future Liberal Government in Australia would be

as accommodating perhaps even consider a specific scheme for Hong Kong residents under the Business Migrants

programme?

Believe you met the Governor of Hong Kong during his

recent visit to Australia.
