Quote We have already given a public welcome to the decision
by the LegCo Finance Committee on 8 February to make a
voluntary contribution of £15 million towards our costs
arising from the Gulf conflict. This donation is very much
appreciated here and I hope that you will pass on my
gratitude.
I should like to add my warm personal thanks for your
efforts in bringing this about. I know that this was a
highly sensitive issue in Hong Kong and that a donation of
this size was not achieved without a great deal of political
effort and skill on your part. Again, very many thanks.
