DRAFT MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER TO MEMBERS OF
HONG KONG'S LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
"I am most grateful to members of Hong Kong's Legislative
Council for the donation of HK dollars 230 million to HMG
for logistic, humanitarian, medical and other support
facilities in the Gulf.
The multinational force fighting Iraq is acting under the
authority of the United Nations and to uphold the UN
Security Council Resolutions which demand the immediate
withdrawal of Iraq from Kuwait. Britain, and over 30
other countries, have joined the coalition to remove
Saddam Hussain's forces from Kuwait and to restore the
rightful government. Britain now has over 40,000 men committed to the Gulf, including some who have been
posted there from Hong Kong.
At a time of international crisis, that Hong Kong's Legislative Council has been prepared to play its part in support of these objectives is greatly appreciated".
