CALL ON SECRETARY OF STATE BY MRS ANNA SOHMEN ON 2 JULY
1. You asked for a background note on Mrs Sohmen and the
current interests of the Y K Pao Group.
Anna Sohmen is one of Sir Y K Pao's four daughters and
is married to Dr Helmut Sohmen, Chairman of World Wide
Shipping Agency Ltd (and ex LegCo member).

Anna Sohmen's main interests are in the educational
field. She is a director of the Chinese International
School and Vice-Chairman of the Society of the Academy for Performing Arts, a fund-raising body for the APA. The APA have invited the Duchess of Kent to visit Hong Kong in early
December.

Current issues involving companies in the Y K Pao Group
include:
(a) There has been press speculation that the Wharf Group is interested in renewing its attempt to take a controlling interest in Hong Kong land (now Jardines controlled):
(b) Wharf has submitted a new proposal on Cable Television
to the administration. It will need to be examined in the
context of the current review of telecommunications and
broadcasting policy which Hong Kong Government aim to
