may also be aware that during the Second Reading of the British
Nationality (Hong Kong) Bill on 19 April 1990, the Home Secretary gave an
assurance that widows and widowers of British citizens will be allowed to
enter the United Kingdom for settlement as if the British citizen was still
alive. To qualify for this assurance the widow or widower must have remained
resident in Hong Kong at the time of the application and have not remarried.
