Who Can Apply
You can apply for registration as a British citizen if you are settled in Hong Kong (i.e. ordinarily resident without any limitation on your stay) AND you are EITHER
(a) A British Dependent Territories citizen (BDTC) by
virtue of a connection with Hong Kong OR
(b)
A British National (Overseas) (BN (O)) OR
(c)
A British overseas citizen (BOC) OR
(a)
A British protected person (BPP) OR
(e)
A British subject (BS) OR
(f)

a British national (e.g. holder of Certificate of Identity) but have applied for naturalisation
registration as a BDTC in Hong Kong before July 26, 1990.
However, your application will be rejected if your application for naturalisation Or registration proves to be
unsuccessful.
AND
To apply
under the General Occupational Class or the Disciplined Services Class, you are or have been engaged in one of the occupations included in the General Occupational Class, or are a member of one of the disciplined services listed below.
Possession of Citizenship of a Third Country
If you already hold the citizenship which gives you a right of abode in a country or territory outside Hong Kong or the People's Republic of China, you will have 200 points deducted from your total score under the points system. points will be deducted if you have acquired temporary or permanent residency in another country, but not its citizenship.
Registration of Family Members

If your application is successful, your spouse and children (under the age of 18 at the time of their application) will be eligible for registration as British citizens regardless of whether they are settled in Hong Kong or of their nationality. But if you marry after you have ceased to be settled in Hong Kong, or if you marry after June 30, 1997, your spouse will not be eligible for registration under this
Act.
