Registration Fee

Thank you for your letters dated 15 October concerning registration fee.

842

I do not think that the registration fee of $1,800 would create any problems in Parliament vis-a-vis what Mr Lloyd had said about the level of registration fees. Our research shows that Mr Lloyd had said in Parliament that the fee levels would not be substantially different from those prescribed in regulations under the British Nationality Act 1981. The British Nationality (Fees)

(Amendment) Regulations 1986 made under section 41(2) and (3) of the 1981 Act provides for the following fee levels:-

Registration as a citizen or

£

50

(a)

British subject, except under section 5, 9, 21 or 27 (2)

(b)

Grant of a certificate of

160

naturalisation as a citizen under

section 6(1) or 18 (1)

(c)

Grant of a certificate of

50

naturalisation as a citizen under section 6 (2) or 18 (2)
