BRITISH NATIONALITY (HONG KONG) BILL SECOND READING
This note is to record that the British Nationality
(Hong Kong) Bill will receive its Second Reading on Thursday 19 April. The debate will be opened by the Home Secretary and the Foreign Secretary will wind up.
Ms Dent advises that arrangements are in hand for the first draft of the speech for the Home Secretary's use to be available by close of play on Wednesday 11 April and no later than 12.00 noon on Thursday 12 April (copied to me, please). Comments on and amendments to the draft speech will be discussed on Wednesday 18 April. Arrangements for the preparation and receipt of briefing material for the Foreign Secretary's use may be made with Mr John Morris, Hong Kong Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Tel 270 2068).
It would be helpful if, nearer to the date of Second Reading, you could let Miss Brathwaite (ext 3526) know which officials will attend the debate.
