Mr Maude's proposed visit to China

The Secretary of State has seen your submission of 18 April. He would like to discuss the timing of Mr Maude's visit in the light of his own feeling that he should go to China in eg November. The Secretary of State would be grateful for advice from the department on the best timing for a visit.

The Secretary of State has asked whether the Hong Kong Bill will be out of Committee by 28 June, when Mr Maude proposes to go.
