12. Mr Tony Banks has tabled 23 PQs on ivory in Hong Kong and made a
statement on 27 March which was sharply critical of the Hong Kong
Government and HMG for their handling of this issue. The Private
Secretary has now written to No. 10 explaining what progress has
been made by the Hong Kong Government towards enacting legislation to give effect to the CITES ban by 18 July. We are also arranging
for an inspired PQ to be tabled on this subject.
